 ng’ museums\n\nNational Museums Liverpool Director David Fleming will di
 scuss how museums change lives in his inaugural Professorial lecture at Li
 verpool Hope University.\n\nThe lecture\, which formally celebrates Profes
 sor Fleming’s appointment as Visiting Professor in Museum Studies at the
  University\, takes place on Wednesday 9th March at 5.30pm (refreshments f
 rom 5pm). It will take place in the Senate Room. The lecture is free and o
 pen to all.\n\nProfessor Fleming said of his lecture topic: “Museums are
  an essential part of any modern civilisation. They can have huge educatio
 nal\, social and economic impacts. As we see a raft of museum closures acr
 oss the UK\, these roles are at risk of being diminished. So how do museum
 s change lives\, and what do we need to do to ensure that they remain a ke
 y part of our nation’s makeup?”\n\nLiverpool Hope works with National 
 Museums Liverpool to deliver the MA in Museum and Heritage Studies. Throug
 h a series of guest seminars\, practical training workshops and study visi
 ts embedded throughout the programme\, the MA Museum and Heritage Studies 
 offers students access to NML’s professional expertise\, world-class col
 lections and outstanding venues. No other museum studies programme current
 ly offers such close collaboration with a national museum service.\n\nStud
 ents also explore a variety of methods and techniques employed by today’
 s museum professionals to develop socially-relevant collections\, to produ
 ce inspiring and challenging exhibitions\, and to engage communities on a 
 local\, national and international level.\n\nThe lecture is free and open
