SUMMARY:Hope Street Theatre: Hope Street Ltd: dot-art: Intermediate Oil Pai
 nting (10 Week Course)
DESCRIPTION:\n\nContinue the process of exploring painting processes and pr
actices\, focusing on working with oils to complete your own personal proj
ect. Suitable for those with some painting experience.\n\n***To avoid a bo
oking fee and pay by card\, cheque or cash\, please contact dot-art Servic
 es directly on 0345 017 6660***\n\nBOOK HERE\n\nMondays 6.45pm-9pm startin
 g 6th February 2017 (£160 for 10 sessions)\n\nProgram\n\n\nThese painting
courses are open to one and all\, from beginner to seasoned pro and are b
ased on conveying an understanding of the painting process\, not on steeri
ng you towards a particular style\, a methodology based on the observation
that reasoning and hard work\, not alchemy and talent\, are at the core o
f all great painting.\n\nThrough demonstration\, explanation and technical
exercises we will cover a number of painting fundamentals using a broad-b
ased approach to the mechanics of painting in oils.\n\n"A man paints with
his brains\, not with his hands." - Michaelangelo\n\n"When I attended art
school and later teaching at Foundation and Degree level\, the methodology
commonly employed was to avoid teaching anything tangible for fear that i
t would inhibit creativity. ‘Express yourself’ I would often hear as a
student which left most of us rather bemused and later as an educator\, f
rustration at the lack of ability from staff to actually teach something t
o the students. This course gives me the opportunity to address this by pro
viding skill based learning in order to deepen the understanding and appli
cations of the visual language that surrounds us."\n\nThe first 7 weeks of
the oil painting program includes:\n\n Munsell colour theory\, neutral g
 rey\, grey scale\, mixing two neutrals N4 and N6.\n Understanding colour\
, paint and palette\, making all colours from CMY\n Project starts (fairl
 y complex figurative composition)\, complete drawing and imprimatura.\n U
 nderpainting - continue project.\n Grisaille\, Verdaccio\, dead layer - c
 ontinue project.\n Glazing techniques\, mediums\, oiling out\, couche - c
 ontinue project..\n Alla Prima\, wet into wet\, blending\, scumbling - co
ntinue project.\n\nThe final 3 weeks will be set aside for you to realise
your own personal project. This will give you the opportunity to use your
imagination and develop those inventive processes alongside traditional an
d contemporary techniques learned earlier in the course. You will make art
as an artist does and develop your project from its conceptual beginning
to its physical end. The course will help you develop a deeper understandi
ng of art and how as practitioners we think and realise work.\n\nTutor: Ri
chard Meaghan\n\nProfessional artist Richard is currently based in a studi
o at Metal in Liverpool. He studied Fine Art at Staffordshire university\,
and on graduating\, was awarded a travel grant to study Renaissance Art i
n Italy. The resulting work was awarded first prize in the Sefton Open\, f
ollowed shortly with his first solo Public exhibition at the Atkinson Art
gallery\, Southport.\n\nMeaghan was chosen as one of three emerging artist
s to exhibit alongside Turner Prize winners Chris Ofili and Keith Tyson in
