\nThese painting courses are open to one and all\, from beginner to season
ed pro and are based on conveying an understanding of the painting process
\, not on steering you towards a particular style\, a methodology based on
the observation that reasoning and hard work\, not alchemy and talent\, a
re at the core of all great painting.\n\nThrough demonstration\, explanati
on and technical exercises we will cover a number of painting fundamentals
using a broad-based approach to the mechanics of painting in oils.\n\n"A
man paints with his brains\, not with his hands." - Michaelangelo\n\n"When
I attended art school and later teaching at Foundation and Degree level\,
the methodology commonly employed was to avoid teaching anything tangible
for fear that it would inhibit creativity. ‘Express yourself’ I would
often hear as a student which left most of us rather bemused and later as
an educator\, frustration at the lack of ability from staff to actually t
each something to the students. This course gives me the opportunity to add
ress this by providing skill based learning in order to deepen the underst
anding and applications of the visual language that surrounds us."\n\nThe
first 7 weeks of the oil painting program includes:\n\nMunsell colour theo
 ry\, neutral grey\, grey scale\, mixing two neutrals N4 and N6.\n\nUnderst
anding colour\, paint and palette\, making all colours from CMY\n\nProject
starts (fairly complex figurative composition)\, complete drawing and imp
 rimatura.\n\nUnderpainting - continue project.\n\nGrisaille\, Verdaccio\,
 dead layer - continue project.\n\nGlazing techniques\, mediums\, oiling ou
 t\, couche - continue project..\n\nAlla Prima\, wet into wet\, blending\,
scumbling - continue project.\n\nThe final 3 weeks will be set aside for y
ou to realise your own personal project. This will give you the opportunit
y to use your imagination and develop those inventive processes alongside
traditional and contemporary techniques learned earlier in the course. You
will make art as an artist does and develop your project from its concept
ual beginning to its physical end. The course will help you develop a deep
er understanding of art and how as practitioners we think and realise work
.\n\nTutor: Richard Meaghan\nProfessional artist Richard is currently base
