SUMMARY:FACT: FACT: Real Work
DESCRIPTION:REAL WORK\nLIZ MAGIC LASER / CANDICE BREITZ\n12 JULY - 6 OCT 20
19\n\nFACT’s summer exhibition and season of events explores precarious
and unrecognised forms of work\nNew exhibition REAL WORK opens at FACT o
n 12 July 2019\, including artworks by Liz Magic Laser and Candice Breitz.
Continuing FACT’s year-long exploration into issues of identity and rep
resentation\, the exhibition highlights the often unheard voices of real p
eople working in precarious situations across the globe.\nFrom UK and inte
rnational freelancers competing for work in the online world\, to a commun
ity of sex workers in South Africa\, the jobs addressed in REAL WORK sha
re a lack of mainstream recognition in society. The exhibition is comprise
d of a major new commission entitled In Real Life (2019) by Liz Magic La
ser\, exploring the most current and largely deregulated profession of onl
ine gig-working\, and Sweat (2018) by Candice Breitz\, which seeks to de
stigmatise sex work\, a profession that remains criminalised in most parts
  of the world.
