SUMMARY:FACT: FACT: Interactivity Group
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nINTERACTIVITY GROUP\nOn 5 Dec 2019\, 16 Jan 2020\, 5 Feb
2020\n\n\n\nBOOKINGS\nJOIN THE GROUP — RESERVE YOUR FREE PLACE\n\n\n\nTh
u\, 07 Nov\n18:00\n\n\n\n\nWhat role have women played in making and engag
ing with new technologies? Over the course of four sessions\, join digital
artist and academic Helena Geilinger in exploring active debates around t
he systems that we use and are used by\, looking at artificial intelligenc
e\, female net artists\, physical infrastructures of the internet and CGI.
 \n\nIncorporating music\, drawing\, reading\, watching and walking\, these
sessions provide a unique way to engage with ideas around gender and tech
nology.\n\nEach session will be themed around a topic with downloadable re
ading material available beforehand. If you are not able to read through t
he documents prior to the session\, please do not worry. Everyone is welco
me and we will read through the materials during each session\, sharing kn
 owledge with each other.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSESSION 1 - ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE\n
 \nThursday 7 November / 18:00 - 20:00\n\n“Why assume that AI will defaul
t to good behaviour if we program it to be just like us?”\n\nArtificial
intelligence systems are being applied to many areas of human life – inc
 luding education\, health care\, law\, housing\, and employment – influe
ncing significant decisions that impact individuals\, populations\, and na
tional agendas. These systems wield great power\, yet few accountability m
easures are being put in place to ensure the safety of those who use and a
re used by them.\n\nLooking at recent work from women artists and research
ers\, we will consider some of the social\, political and cultural ramific
ations of AI. Through a series of activities – including discussion\, dr
awing and listening – the session will provide a unique way to engage wi
th ideas around gender and technology.\n\nFurther sessions will involve ac
tivities that provide avenues into thinking about CGI\, female net artists
and physical infrastructures of the internet.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n 'Discriminat
ing Systems: Gender\, Race\, and Power in AI’ – Sarah Myers West\, Mer
edith Whittaker and Kate Crawford (.pdf\, 0.17mb)\n ‘The Work of Art in
the Age of Artificial Intelligence’ – Caroline Christie (.pdf\, 1.97m
