SUMMARY:Cass Art: Exhibition: GROUND
DESCRIPTION:G R O U N D\nMay 1-31 2021\n\nJohn Elcock\nJulie Lawrence\nPaul
  Mellor\nSarah Jane Richards\n\nThe Cass Art Space\, 18 School Lane\, Live
 rpool\, L1 3BT\n\nVisual meditations on landscape\, in new work on paper b
 y four North West-based painters.\n\nWorking quite independently Elcock\,
Lawrence and Richards have all made new work referencing Hilbre Island and
the Dee Estuary\, a liminal space where the ground\, sky and water meet.
\n\nRecent work by Mellor also has similar reference points based however
on the geographically opposite coastline\, and memories of living in the
North Yorkshire Moors.\n\nPreoccupations with the seasons\, changing light
\, patterns of nature and weather based on intense observation in the fiel
d are explored with exclusive use of paper-based media.\n\nEach of the ar
tists is drawn towards distant horizons\, wilderness and empty landscapes\
, informed by a sense of place\, immersion\, memory and the Northern Roma
ntic Tradition.\n\nNOTES TO EDITORS\n\n\nGROUND is part of Independents Bi
ennial Associates Programme. The artists' work is produced independently\,
but included as a unique voice alongside the festival.\n\nwww.independen
