SUMMARY:Editions Ltd: Editions Ltd: Don Braisby- Alchemy & Corrosion
DESCRIPTION:Don Braisby- Alchemy &amp\; Corrosion\n\n\nPrivate View Thursd
 ay 20th July 5.30.8.00\n\nGeneral opening 21st July to 19th August\n\nDo
n Braisby's first solo exhibition with Editions is a collection of works t
hat demonstrate the beauty of the process of corrosion\, itself a part of
the printmaking process. The plates and the prints are twin components of
the outcome of that controlled creative process.\nThe work is a record of
my exploration of self and other\, through journey and place. In my work\,
I'm drawn to exploring the area between conscious and unconscious\, the b
orderland state of being between dream and waking. It is a place where ima
ges predominate.\nI live and am inspired by the landscape of the borderlan
ds of North Wales and England. It is a land of myth and legend that bears
the scars of the industrial revolution and changes in ownership and cultur
e over the centuries. My most recent work plays with the reality of etchin
g as the artistic control of corrosion. The plates are developed using bot
h the natural corrosion created by weathering and that produced by electro
lysis and electro chemical processes in the studio.\nThe finished work req
uires a viewer. The image demands to be seen\; this is how it becomes aliv
 e. A new narrative is forged between the image and the viewer. The relatio
nship developed between the image and viewer depends on the interplay and
resonance between the image and the viewer's memories\, dreams and experie
nces.\n\nThe title of a piece may direct the viewer to make a specific rel
ationship with it. I prefer the relationship between the viewer and my wor
k to be unmediated by titles\; the ones I provide are merely by way of an
introduction of the image to the viewer
