SUMMARY:Editions Ltd: Editions: Looking at Picasso - Pauline Hughes & Paul
 Romano
DESCRIPTION:Private view - Thursday 17 September 2015\, 17.00 - 20.00\nExhi
bition runs until Saturday 17 October 2015\n\nWe were really excited when
Paul and Pauline approached us with the theme of this exhibition. Both art
ists have been firm favourites at Editions and have made no secret of thei
r admiration of the work of Picasso. Paul's work has recently featured mor
e evidence of this and to some extent Pauline's ceramics have been influen
ced by the same sources that Picasso seemed interested in.\n\n[caption id=
 "attachment_63179" align="alignright" width="185"] Pauline Hughes[/caption
]\n\nHowever\, on this occasion Pauline takes a specific body of work by P
icasso as her starting point:\n"The Work For This Exhibition Draws Its Ins
piration From The 'Vollard Suite'\, A Set Of 100 Prints Produced By Picass
o From 1930-1937. Not Only Are These Prints Visually Compelling They Also
Possess A Life And Energy That Is Extraordinary In Its Intensity. By Adopt
ing The Techniques Common To Printmaking I Have Attempted To Bring Some Of
This Intensity To The Clay Surface And Create Pieces That Have A Life And
\, Presence Of Their Own. "\nPauline Hughes\n\nPaul uses Picasso's own wor
ds to describe his approach:\nI Begin With An Idea And Then It Becomes Som
ething Else. After All\, What Is A Painter? He Is A Collector Who Gets Wha
t He Likes In Others By Painting Them Himself. This Is How I Begin And The
 n It Becomes Something Else.\n\n&nbsp\;
