SUMMARY:: Eden Tearoom and Galleries: Eden Nature Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Workshop for writers of all levels — are you interested in cr
eative writing and the natural environment? Then this workshop is for you!
\n\nBOOK HERE (£25)\n\nJoin writer &amp\; creative practitioner Bernadett
e McBride for this nature writing workshop at the beautiful Eden Tearoom &
amp\; Galleries in Newburgh\, West Lancashire.\n\nThis nature writing work
shop will draw on Eden's August to October 2021 exhibition: ‘Inspired by
the North West’ featuring a mixture of artwork based on northwest citys
capes and countryside.\n\nWe will start with an overview of nature writing
and read some of the popular and emerging writers in this genre. Bernadet
te will cover the basics from traditional nature writing to new nature wri
ting and links to place writing.\n\nWe'll also think about what defines "n
ature" writing and discuss the current lack of diversity in this publishin
g phenomenon.\n\nCould you be the new voice of nature writing?\n\nThe work
shop will consist of a warmup exercise plus two main (nature-inspired) cre
ative writing exercises\, which you will be fully guided through. One exer
cise will be directly linked to Eden's exhibition so you will get to see t
he art too and have something to talk about on your tea break!\n\nWe will
share all the writing produced in a small supportive group environment as
we go along. Everyone will go home having produced work and with some idea
s to further develop their writing.\n\nBernadette will also provide an ext
ract from her book Roots which has a chapter set in the Fairy Glen at ne
arby Parbold Hill.\n\nYou will be sent optional reading materials ahead of
the workshop.\n\nBernadette McBride is the author of Roots: The Eco-jour
nal (pub. 2018). She was shortlisted for the Manchester Fiction Prize 202
0 for the UK's biggest unpublished writing prize and won an award for the
Biggest Impact on the City of Liverpool for her creative writing workshops
in 2019. She is a PhD candidate in Creative Writing at the University of
Liverpool\, where she teaches creative writing and has developed writing w
orkshops on nature\, climate change and place within the English departmen
t.\n\nThere is a lack of diversity in nature writing and associated educat
ion\, for this workshop\, there will be two free places for those from und
errepresented backgrounds. One for a student working or interested in the
natural environment or place\, and one for a non-student.Underrepresented
backgrounds in nature writing may vary from class\, sex\, gender\, sexuali
ty\, ethnicity\, care-experience\, disability and more. Simply email with
an introduction\, this is not an application and will be on a first-come-f
irst-served basis due to the small group numbers due to Covid. To enquire p
