SUMMARY:dot-art Gallery: dot-art: Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Arboretum Exhibition at dot-art Gallery\nFeaturing art by six l
ocal artists\, Arboretum showcases the enduring relationship we have with
our botanical cohabitants\; a source of creative inspiration for hundreds
of years\, figures of poetic symbolism and worship\, emblems of calm and t
ranquillity – Arboretum celebrates the tree. From soft\, wistful landsca
pes to bold and vertiginous lines\, this exhibition has been curated to be
a symbiotic forest of naturalism and abstraction.\nHilary Dron layers oi
l and cold wax to create dense thickets of texture in her paintings. Her c
ollection of abstract Pines and Silver Birches depict windows of reimagine
d adventures from her travels from Liverpool to Ireland and Japan. Althoug
h exploiting a vibrant palette\, each woodland scene evokes a deeply quiet
aesthetic through her use of generous layering.\nWirral-based painter A
manda Oliphant believes in forming a kinship with the natural world throu
gh her art\, highlighting and exposing elements that often go unnoticed to
others. Her oil and acrylic landscapes showcase the twisting hollows of w
eather beaten trees beneath atmospheric skies\, her clever use of negative
space placing her solitary trees centre stage.\nHazel Thomson is a seaso
ned “Arborealist”. Having painted many of her stunning landscapes in C
heshire and Liverpool\, Hazel’s body of work reflects her intimate obser
vations of forests throughout their cyclic conservation and regrowth\, bot
h cold and exposed and lush and green. Her realistic representation captur
es the gentle movement of dappled light and the rushing sounds of leaves.\
nFor Liverpool-based artist Frank Linnett the importance of having visib
le references to ‘real’ things in his paintings\, even if the piece do
es not reflect a definite reality\, can be seen throughout his collection
in Arboretum. The contrast of delicate Birchwood branches against soft pas
tels creates an effective and surreal aesthetic\, whilst transporting the
individual viewer to a specific and nostalgic place.\nRob Edmondson’s a
rt is a true reflection of the beautiful Lancashire landscape where he liv
es. The focus of his art is deeply introspective\, as for each piece he co
nsiderately questions the choice of natural subject matter. Rob’s bold a
nd lush palette is refreshing and invigorating to take in and illustrates
the organic beauty found in every season.\nJoe Thompson is a Liverpool-ba
sed painter whose Arboretum series of work portrays soft and looming wood
land scenes. Taking inspiration from his own travels\, Joe translates his
observations onto the canvas\, perfectly capturing the fleeting glimpses o
f light breaking through the canopy.\nThe exhibition starts on 16th March
and runs to Saturday 28th April. Entry is free.\nThe dot-art Gallery can
  be found at 14 Queen Avenue\, Castle Street\, Liverpool\, L2 4TX (just
5 minutes’ walk from Liverpool One). Opening times: Monday – Saturda
 y\, 10am-6pm
