 Emmas\n\nCarol focuses on creating abstract photographic works and imagina
 ry landscapes through the exploration of texture and light. She is an arti
 st studying for a practice-led MA by Research in Art and Design at Liverpo
 ol John Moores University\, investigating the representation of contempora
 ry art photography in curatorial spaces. Her first degree was in Modern Hi
 story and she became an historical researcher and co-wrote Florence Maybri
 ck - The Last Victim (Hodder-Headline\, 1999). Carol then became a news an
 d wine journalist for Harpers magazine. Six years ago\, she returned serio
 usly to photography. She is represented by Guilford-based\, Art Vogue Gall
 ery. She writes reviews for Art in Liverpool. In 2017\, she was invited to
  speak at their conference by the Royal Photographic Society. She has been
  invited to speak again in 2019 and will be featured in Royal Photographic
  Society Journal in the Autumn.\n\nRuth White\n\nDriven by her working-cla
 ss upbringing in Liverpool\, Ruth White has spent the last four years carr
 ying out a practice led investigation into the role of the photobook in re
 presenting the British Working Classes Since 1975\, for a fully funded PhD
  at Manchester Metropolitan University. Ruth completed a Fine Art Degree (
 specialising in drawing\, painting and print making) in 2002 at Wirral Met
 ropolitan College\, where she was taught by Mike Knowles\, a former studen
 t of William Coldstream at the Slade School of Fine Art and a Welsh landsc
 ape painter. She then spent several years working in pubs and call centres
  before training to become a primary school teaching assistant. After two 
 years as a teaching assistant she completed a Post Graduate Certificate in
  Education in Art at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in 2009. Diff
 iculty in securing a permanent teaching position led to the opportunity to
  complete a Masters in Fine Art at LJMU in 2011\, for which she investigat
 ed working class identity\, the family and mental health through performan
 ce\, video and textiles and then onto a partially funded Masters in Resear
 ch in Art and Design at LJMU in 2012\, for which she investigated social c
 lass in the art of Gillian Wearing and was awarded the faculty prize.\n\nW
