SUMMARY:Bluecoat: DaDaFest: The Kindness of Strangers by Tim Jeeves
DESCRIPTION:The Kindness of Strangers is an intricate and personal promenad
e performance piece from Tim Jeeves focusing on the bone marrow transplant
he had as a teenager.\n\nIn 1997\, whilst studying for his English A-Leve
l\, Tim read Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire and first enco
untered the play’s tragic protagonist\, Blanche DuBois: a woman\, danger
ously mismatched to her surroundings\, who’s eventual undoing is encapsu
lated in the line\, “I have always depended on the kindness of strangers
”.\n\nA year later\, in 1998\, after intensive treatment for malignant t
umours in his leg\, lungs and liver\, Tim also turned to the benevolence o
f someone he didn’t know when he received bone marrow from an anonymous
donor.\nPartly a reflection on how to thank the most significant person Ti
m has never met\, but also an exploration of how we deal with another’s
generosity\, The Kindness of Strangers is an immersive multi-media perform
ance that explores the relationship between performer and audience and wea
ves Tim’s autobiography with A Streetcar Named Desire until\, eventually
\, the kindness of strangers is again called on to complete the work.\n\nT
he Bluecoat has supported the development of this performance.\n\nOriginal
development: Arts Council England\, The Bluecoat\, Giving in to Gift.\nFu
rther development: DaDaFest\n\nWritten and Performed by Tim Jeeves\nDesign
