SUMMARY:Bluecoat: DaDaFest: diRTy by Joey Hateley\, The Gender Joker
DESCRIPTION:A perverted psycho-drama\, visionary extravaganza and unique mu
lti-disciplinary performance work\, diRTy is a raw depiction of the taboos
and excesses of humanity\n\n“Where would you draw the line?” is the s
imple\, yet looming question left tantalisingly unanswered by transgressiv
e performance artist Joey Hateley\, delivering diRTy to daring audiences r
eady to find their own truths. Integrated with British Sign Language Inter
pretation by Siobhan Rocks\, diRTy is a surreal semi-autobiographical perf
ormance piece\, inviting audiences to eavesdrop on the conversation betwee
 n conflicting persona’s inside someone’s head.\n\nSocietal stereotypin
g\, gender norms and personal secrets interweave a person’s struggle to
summon their internal army to break free from a cocoon of torment and sham
 e. To transcend boundaries of self-doubt and realise we are perfectly abno
rmal\, magical and mystical\, is the essence that connects all of us.\n\nH
ateley is the Artistic Director of TransAction\, a company that creates tr
 ansformative\, cross-cultural\, inter-disciplinary performance on issues o
f identity\, diversity\, inclusion and empowerment. As a theatrical innova
tor\, educator and art-activist\, Joey has worked with collaborators from
Thailand to India\, Peru\, Ecuador and South Africa\, touring work across
 the UK\, Australia\, Belgium\, Sweden\, Canada and USA arts festivals.\n\n
“A stirring performer that throws some serious light on current taboos.
 ” A:Gender\, Time Out\, 2004\n\n“Incisive and insightful work… that
rips up our notions of gender and asks us to start again.” Diva Magazine
\n\nWe recommend an age guidance rating of 18+ for this event. Please cont
act us if you would like further information on the content of the perform
ance.\n\ndiRTy by: Joey Hateley\, the Gender Joker\nBSL Artist: Siobhan Ro
