people and other living and dead things and the matter in between – an exhibition by Jenny Gaskell
A ritual of thank you, thank you, thank you.
Join us for a special exhibition from artist and theatre maker Jenny Gaskell, as part of the Autumn season of our Loved and Lost programme.
Fri 18th October – Sat 26th October 2024
10:30am – 4:30pm
Crosby Library
Visitors are encouraged to write a note to something or someone they have loved and lost and place it in our installation.
Thank yous are written for the big stuff and little stuff and stuff that goes unnoticed. We thank family, friends, pets, neighbours, exes, the person who fixed your haircut and the person who let you sleep on their sofa. We thank the weather that one evening, the home you grew up in, your favourite earrings that you can’t find anymore, the book you dropped in the bath, the houseplant that just never made it, the dance moves we used to be brilliant at and that amazing meal you didn’t get the recipe for.
Write your own thank you note or take a moment to read those that have been left by others
The cards will be made from the seed paper handcrafted by community members in our previous sessions at Crosby and Bootle libraries, using recycled library paper embedded with marigold seeds. After the exhibition the thank you cards will be planted around Crosby & Bootle libraries, allowing the marigold flowers to bloom along with the memories of things we have loved.
Everybody is welcome and the exhibition is free. Open during library opening hours, Mon – Fri 10:30am – 4:30pm and Saturdays 10:30pm – 1:30pm.
The installation will be hosted through the week by Jenny, Megan, or creative producers Debbie Chan or Laura Yates – there will always be someone to talk with.
You can also drop by to help make more seed paper on Friday 18th October, Tuesday 22nd october, Wednesday 23rd October, 1:30pm – 3:30pm.
Jenny Gaskell is an artist and theatre-maker. She is interested in connection, art that happens in everyday places and creates scenarios for people to take agency. Her work involves hosting, listening, writing, gathering people together and thinking about how to hold various types of grief. It is often intimate, tender, funny, conceptual and gives reverence to everyday interactions.
The project is part of At the Library, a collaborative arts programme between Sefton Libraries and Rule of Threes Arts.
People and Other Living Dead Things and the Matter in Between was originally created by Jenny Gaskell for Islington Mill’s IMAA ‘All We Have’ Exhibition (2019).
