DESCRIPTION:Chester Contemporary: Talk by Julia Midgley - Beneath the Surfa

 cumentary artist and printmaker Julia Midgley’s work has taken her all o
 ver the country including Chester and Cheshire.\n\nThis talk will focus on
  work produced since the 1980’s which records:- excavations of Chester
 ’s Roman Amphitheatre\; Objects and drawings found in the archives of Ch
 eshire Records office\; Training activities at The Cheshire Yeomanry\, C D
 ivision\, Fox Barracks\, Chester\; and the many objects recorded with draw
 ing in 'County Conundrum'.\n\nThe 'County Conundrum' was commissioned to c
 ommemorate the Centenary of the then Cheshire County Council. The image co
 ntains up to 40 items all of which are found in the county or the city of 
 Chester. At the time of its publication a competition was held to see who 
 could identify all the items. The winner correctly identified 24.\n\n“Th
 e above projects taught me so much about the history and activities of my 
 home county\, by\nscratching the surface history revealed itself”. - Jul
 ia Midgley. RWS. RE MAFA\n\nJulia Midgley is an artist\, printmaker and do
 cumentary artist. She is the recipient of National awards for drawing\, pa
 inting\, and printmaking. Direct observational drawing is the bedrock of h
 er practice generally\, and\, particularly in her reportage practice.\n\nI

 Talk includes Tea / Coffee and biscuits.\n\nAccess\nThe lecture theatre is
  on the ground floor of the museum which can be accessed via lift from str
 eet level. The back (top of the lecture theatre is accessible to ​those 
 with limited mobility. Please advise us if you have access needs and we ca
 n ensure we reserve a suitable space for you. The lecture theatre has a he
 aring loop.\n\nFunding\nThis talk is part of the Cultural Programme of the
  Chester High Street Heritage Action Zone (the Rows)\, funded by Historic 
 England\, National Lottery Heritage Fund and supported by Arts Council Eng
 land and Cheshire West and Chester Council.
