SUMMARY:CBS Gallery: CBS: One Flew East
DESCRIPTION:One Flew East\n\nCBS presents 'One Flew East' an exhibition bri
nging together the work of artist's Jenny West &amp\; Louise Giovanelli.\n
\nAn engagement with art history is central to the practices of Giovanelli
and West. Travelling as a means to access and collect images provides sta
rting points for both artists to reconfigure and reimagine details found w
ithin the rich history of western visual culture.\n\nThere is a process of
translation and dislocation found within their work – cuts\, extracts a
nd reversals are mechanisms used to accentuate and simplify imagery. Both
artists emphasise the material and sculptural properties of appropriated a
nd referenced material.\n\nThe echoing motifs and patterns – borrowed an
d spliced together fromother sources\, creates a dialogue between the work
s in the show\, linking them not just to each other but to the history of
art. There is a tangible desire by the artists to connect their practices
to art of the past\, brokering old and new ways of thinking and looking at
  art objects\, materiality and representation.\n\nPrivate View - 08/06/201
