SUMMARY:CBS Gallery: CBS: fs presents Slide Night
DESCRIPTION:book here\n\nfs presents ‘Slide Night’ a nomadic slide proj
ector performance evening hosted by Thomas Whittle as part of ‘Reading W
eek’ at CBS.\n\n*\n\n‘Slide Night’ takes the formal shape of a tradi
tional slide talk\, this one structure acting as a gimcrack portmanteau\,
within which function a series of diverse and disconnected movements\, tan
gents and dead ends.\n\nArtists are invited to produce a live presentation
\, the only rule being there must be at least one 35mm slide shown. This w
ill be the eleventh edition of 'Slide Night'.\n\nPart exhibition\, part co
ntemplative study space\, ‘Reading Week’ sees a series of invited arti
sts initiate peer support and study whilst presenting live works that deal
with text and reading\, words and speaking\, linguistics\, language\, loo
king and learning. Situated around a specially made\, malleable seating in
stallation influenced by a collection of egg cups\, an ongoing Reading Lis
t will be nestled there too\, with the installation playing host to two Sa
turday afternoon Reading Groups also. All kindly housed in the gallery at
CBS.\n\n*\n\nThomas Whittle (b.1988) is an artist based in Edinburgh. His
 practice encompasses photography\, painting\, drawing\, sculpture\, perfor
mance and writing\, often bringing these mediums together\, attempting to
navigate the duality of definition\, ambiguity of usefulness and diluted p
urpose of the quiet and unassuming two-dimensional image. He founded curat
orial project MONOMATIC\, a roaming project space and self-publishes under
the name Long Distance Press\, founded with Adam Shield in 2016.\n\nthoma
swhittle.co.uk\n\nThomas Whittle’s ‘Slide Night’ will bring ‘Readi
ng Week’ to a close with slide projector presentations by a selection of
Liverpool-based artists alongside Thomas himself. Celebratory refreshment
s will be served from 17.00\, presentations begin at 17.30.
