SUMMARY:Cass Art: Cass Art: Hale\, Mersey\, Full of Grace
DESCRIPTION:Hale\, Mersey\, Full of Grace\nCass Art Space\, Liverpool\, UK\
n9th - 22nd January 2017\n\nLiverpool artist exhibits recent works explori
ng the spirit of place\, in the landscape and birdlife of Hale on the rive
r Mersey.\n\nWhy do certain places maintain an indefinable sense of signif
icance? Liverpool-based contemporary artist John Elcock examines this phe
nomenon with an exhibition of new paintings\, which respond to Hale villag
e through its landscape and remarkable birdlife.\n\nIn Hale\, Mersey\, Fu
ll of Grace he has created a series of works that have developed from a y
ear exploring the coastline of this isolated yet beautiful landscape situ
ated less than ten miles from the centre of Liverpool.\n\nPaintings and dr
awings reveal enigmatic landscape features such as Hale’s historic duck
decoy and abandoned wartime structures on the shoreline. As an experience
d birdwatcher\, he also incorporates into his work species he has observed
whilst walking the Mersey estuary and which characterise the area as an
important SSSI.\n\nThe exhibition includes a unique set of bird ikons. The
artist comments:\n‘There is something special in the nature of birds wh
ich bridges the divine and the temporal\, these iconographic paintings are
my attempt to realise this and return something of their generosity thro
ughout my many visits to Hale’.
