SUMMARY:Victoria Gallery & Museum: Brigitte Jurack: Rising Darkness
DESCRIPTION:An Independents Biennial Exhibition\n\nRising Darkness\nBrigitt
 e Jurack\n\nExhibition\n\nBrigitte Jurack presents a suite of drawings\,
objects\, writings and the design for a new floor mosaic. Challenged by cu
rrent affairs\, literature\, landscape and European history\, the stark wo
rk engages with memories of military occupations\, imperial landgrabs and
land reclamations.\n\nDrop-in Workshops\n\nAs part of the ‘Rising Darkne
ss’ exhibition by Brigitte Jurack there are opportunities to join the ar
tist in making a shared mosaic. Historical evidence suggests that major m
osaic schemes were undertaken by teams of people who shared the time-consu
ming task of slowly laying out the design on the floors of domestic houses
\, temples or assembly halls. This new mosaic is inspired by an unswept f
loor found in a Roman villa in Aquileia but is politicised to include
modern debris and specially trained landmine-sniffing rats.\n\n Tuesday 1
