SUMMARY:Bridewell Studios and Gallery: Bridewell Studios & Gallery: Fleetin
 g
DESCRIPTION:Fleeting\nBridewell Studios and Gallery\, 101 Prescot St\, Live
 rpool L7 8UL\n\nPrivate View\, 13th June\, 6pm-10pm\n\n14th-23rd June (vie
 w by appointment- Contact 07963557673 or 07702067180)\n\nThis exhibition c
ontinues the collaboration of Road Studio members Jacob Gourley and Louis
Jeck Prestidge. Both working side by side in the studio over the past year
\, they have shared skills and experiences that have developed and encoura
ged new avenues of investigation within their practices. This has culminat
ed in a collaboration exploring the meaning surrounding narrative in the e
veryday. Stories that emerge from a series of fleeting moments on public t
ransport and snapshots of famous actors on television. They have each form
ed a visual language tracing fundamental human concerns through the articu
lation of the mundane.\n\nJacob's practice is largely centred around portr
aiture\, combining a painterly realism with a hard edged abstraction. With
areas of illusion aside flat sections of colour\, he places his figures i
n an ambiguous\, often surreal pictorial space. Jacob is interested in mak
ing the familiar unfamiliar\; an ongoing body of work which he has blanket
titled 'Connection' looks at people on public transport. Acting as a voye
ur\, through candid photographs and sketches\, he attempts to capture peop
le on his journeys. These later become the reference material for his pain
tings\, which each aim to transform a mundane\, everyday subject into a su
rreal\, emotionally charged portrait.\n\nLouis Jeck Prestidge uses paintin
g and filmmaking to explore our relationship with the moving image. Using
archive clips of Parkinson interviews from the 1970s\, Louis develops a di
alogue between the viewer and the subject seen onscreen\, forming narrativ
es that illustrate his own unique personal history. The paintings are comp
osed in 4:3 dimensions\, a ratio of old television screens before widescre
en television. These images are used as a template to explore the rituals
 inherent in our everyday lives.
