SUMMARY:Bluecoat: Bluecoat: Engineering Fictions: Jessica Foley and Dennis
 McNulty
DESCRIPTION:Engineering Fictions: Jessica Foley and Dennis McNulty\n\n\nA h
ands-on writing session where collective day-dreaming\, conversation\, exp
erimental and uncreative writing help to tilt habits of occupational commu
nication with Liverpool Biennial 2016 artist Dennis McNulty and artist\, r
esearcher and writer Jessica Foley.\n\nThis session takes place in the con
text of Dennis McNulty’s exhibition\, Homo Gestalt: The Time Domain\, at
Bluecoat. The seed for this session begins with a science-fictional conce
pt called 'BLESH'.\n\nBLESH is a portmanteau of ‘blend’ and ‘mesh\,
’ and it refers to people who can bring their abilities together telepat
hically and can act together as one organism. Originally coined by writer
Theodore Sturgeon in his novella More Than Human (1953)\, BLESH is imagine
d as the next step in human evolution towards a mature gestalt consciousne
ss - or group mind - homo gestalt.\n\nDennis has re-conceived BLESH as an
iphone app for making and sharing low resolution animated GIFs based on a
simple display design by pioneering systems theorist Stafford Beer.\n\nThe
session will begin with Dennis and Jessica picking up the threads of an o
ngoing conversation around the design and possibilities of BLESH in this s
o-called narcissistic age. As always\, writing will ensue.\n\nParticipants
  are asked to bring a pen/pencil and notebook - water\, tea\, coffee and i
 nspiration will be provided.\n\n
