SUMMARY:Bluecoat: Bluecoat: The Bluecoat's Looked After Children
DESCRIPTION:The Bluecoat's Looked After Children\n\n\n\nDiscover the histor
y of the Bluecoat building as a charity school and the unheard voices of t
he children it housed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis exhibition brings archival materi
al relating to the school together with contemporary art\, including docum
entation of past Bluecoat exhibitions and performances that have interroga
ted this history.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Bluecoat has worked directly with
a group of adults with experience of the modern care system\, along with
creatives\, to research some of the individual children identified in the
school’s archive. Under the guidance of Liverpool writer Margy McShane t
he participants have creatively reimagined the lost voices of these childr
en.\n\nThe work produced by this adult group will be featured in a new ins
tallation commission from interactive design studio Stand + Stare\, which
has formed the centrepiece of the exhibition and brings to life some of th
e stories of the children from the Bluecoat’s past.\n\nLiverpool-based d
ance artist Paula Hampson has collaborated with a second group of particip
ants\, young people from Kinship Carers\, to further explore the day to da
y life of a nineteenth-century Blue Coat pupil. Kinship Carers is an organ
isation supporting children looked after by family members and friends.\n\
nLooked After Children is part of the Bluecoat’s Echoes and Origins p
roject\, exploring the eighteenth-century origins of the building through
an engagement with local people\nFind out more about the project\n\n\n\n
