SUMMARY:Bluecoat: Bluecoat: Liverpool Welcomes Event
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 5 December 2015\, 12.00 - 19.00\n\nFREE\n\nFollowing t
heir successful Arts and Music Fundraiser last month at 24 Kitchen Street\
, Liverpool Welcomes are preparing their second event in support of the cu
rrent refugee crisis\, this time looking to bring asylum seekers and the w
ider Merseyside community together as one.\n\nAt the Bluecoat in Liverpool
\, there will be a whole day of events looking to bring the city's public
together with asylum seekers. There will be an opportunity to hear from re
fugees themselves\, as well as a chance for the public to ask questions an
d take part in a day full of fun music and arts activities too.\n\n“The
current refugee crisis is now more relevant than ever: after the recent at
tacks\, there’s a misplaced global backlash against refugees\, and incre
asing security concerns” said Juliana Landim from Liverpool Welcomes.\n\
 n“Whether you’re a refugee/asylum seeker or not\, there will be someth
ing for you\; and it's all FREE of charge\, thanks to all the facilitators
who donated their time and skills\, as well as the historic Bluecoat\, wh
o generously offered all the spaces utilised for a very reduced rate.”\n
\nThe free activities and workshops will include drumming\, singing\, danc
ing\, yoga and mindfulness as well as a Market Place where you can find ou
t how to help\, learn true facts and figures\, and learn about other resou
rces from local groups working with asylum seekers and refugees.\n\nThe ev
ent will also feature a “Living Library” where attendees can ask quest
ions directly to migrants\, a panel discussion with experts on “What is
a 'Liverpool Welcome' and how we can sustain it?” and to finish the day
there will be live music performances by Science of the Lamps as well as a
candle lit vigil.\n\nLiverpool Welcomes have taken inspiration from Ron A
tkey\, lawyer\, professor and national security expert who recently said
“The humanitarian need to do more is stronger now than ever. We must try
to turn consciousness around\, away from a pure security discussion to a
humanitarian discussion to share compassionate views and to get the narrat
ive changed.”\n\nOrganisers hope that the people of Liverpool will indee
d welcome their new neighbours to this event where they can join\, connect
 \, learn and share.\n\nMore info: http://www.liverpoolwelcomes.org/\nEvent
