 se will be open to all abilities from complete beginners who haven’t don
 e art since school\, to those who use art as a hobby\, as well as artists 
 wanting help developing their own work and practise.\n\n\nOver the course 
 of 10 weeks\, you will develop your awareness of painting as a unique mean
 s of visual communication. Through practical work you will consolidate you
 r knowledge of visual grammar and expand your visual literacy. You will co
 nsider how ideas\, information and feelings can be articulated\, transform
 ed and conveyed through visual systems\, processes and conventions. As wel
 l as having the opportunity to reflect on historical precedents and draw u
 pon your own experiences\, you will be encouraged to explore your own aest
 hetic abilities and visual judgements which will form a fundamental part o
 f your practise.\n\nDuring the course you will be asked to explore and dev
 elop ideas relating to your own "Personal Environment". This will involve 
 the processes of research\, development of ideas and the design and produc
 tion of work relating to the brief.\n\nYou should focus on making work tha
 t relates to your own experience of being in the world. This may relate to
  home or work life\, landscape or nature as you see it\, remember or imagi
 ne it. It could also relate to hobbies or interests\, film\, media\, polit
 ics\, religion\, sport etc etc and can incorporate any number of differing
  experiences that make reference to who you are.\n\nAs artists we have a w
 hole array of interests and ideas but how do we make art with all this stu
 ff?\n\nThis course will give you the opportunity to use your imagination a
 nd develop those inventive processes alongside traditional and contemporar
 y techniques. You will make art as an artist does and develop your project
  from its conceptual beginning to its physical end. The course will help y
 ou develop a deeper understanding of art and how as practitioners we think
  and realise work.\n\nThis course provides skill based learning in order t
 o deepen the understanding and applications of the visual language that su
 rrounds us. During the 10 weeks you will build up to the creation of your 
 own finished painting in acrylics as follows:\n\nWeek 1: The importance of
  drawing (gradation study).\nWeek 2: Colour theory.\nWeek 3: Underpainting
  (grisaille study).\nWeek 4: Chroma (still life study).\nWeek 5: Invention
  and composition.\nWeeks 6-10: Individual project.\n\nTutor: Richard Meagh
 an\n\nProfessional artist Richard is currently based in a studio at Metal 
 in Liverpool. He studied Fine Art at Staffordshire university\, and on gra
 duating\, was awarded a travel grant to study Renaissance Art in Italy. Th
 e resulting work was awarded first prize in the Sefton Open\, followed sho
 rtly with his first solo Public exhibition at the Atkinson Art gallery\, S
 outhport.\n\nMeaghan was chosen as one of three emerging artists to exhibi
 t alongside Turner Prize winners Chris Ofili and Keith Tyson in ‘Exposed
 - Art and Culture in England’s North West’ and was shortlisted for the
  Liverpool Art Prize in 2009. He has exhibited widely both nationally and 
 internationally and has future exhibitions planned for Liverpool\, London\
 , Copenhagen\, Denmark\, Berlin\, Germany and Brussels\, Belgium.\n\nDates
 \n\nWinter Session 2017\, Tuesday evenings from 6.45-9pm\n\n7th\, 14th\, 2
 1st\, 28th February\n\n7th\, 21st\, 28th March\n\n4th\, 11th\, 18th April.

 e centre of Liverpool\, just behind Church Street\, down Church Alley and 
 in front of Liverpool ONE. You can enter the building via the front courty
