 gram\n\n\nThis painting course will be open to all abilities from complete
  beginners who haven’t done art since school\, to those who use art as a
  hobby\, as well as artists wanting help developing their own work and pra
 ctise.\n\n\nOver the course of 10 weeks\, you will develop your awareness 
 of painting as a unique means of visual communication. Through practical w
 ork you will consolidate your knowledge of visual grammar and expand your 
 visual literacy. You will consider how ideas\, information and feelings ca
 n be articulated\, transformed and conveyed through visual systems\, proce
 sses and conventions. As well as having the opportunity to reflect on hist
 orical precedents and draw upon your own experiences\, you will be encoura
 ged to explore your own aesthetic abilities and visual judgements which wi
 ll form a fundamental part of your practise.\n\nDuring the course you will
  be asked to explore and develop ideas relating to your own "Personal Envi
 ronment". This will involve the processes of research\, development of ide
 as and the design and production of work relating to the brief.\n\nYou sho
 uld focus on making work that relates to your own experience of being in t
 he world. This may relate to home or work life\, landscape or nature as yo
 u see it\, remember or imagine it. It could also relate to hobbies or inte
 rests\, film\, media\, politics\, religion\, sport etc etc and can incorpo
 rate any number of differing experiences that make reference to who you ar
 e.\n\nAs artists we have a whole array of interests and ideas but how do w
 e make art with all this stuff?\n\nThis course will give you the opportuni
 ty to use your imagination and develop those inventive processes alongside
  traditional and contemporary techniques. You will make art as an artist d
 oes and develop your project from its conceptual beginning to its physical
  end. The course will help you develop a deeper understanding of art and h
 ow as practitioners we think and realise work.\n\nThis course provides ski
 ll based learning in order to deepen the understanding and applications of
  the visual language that surrounds us. During the 10 weeks you will build
  up to the creation of your own finished painting in acrylics as follows:\
 n\nWeek 1: The importance of drawing (gradation study).\nWeek 2: Colour th
 eory.\nWeek 3: Underpainting (grisaille study).\nWeek 4: Chroma (still lif
 e study).\nWeek 5: Invention and composition.\nWeeks 6-10: Individual proj
 ect.\n\nTutor: Richard Meaghan\n\nProfessional artist Richard is currently
  based in a studio at Metal in Liverpool. He studied Fine Art at Staffords
 hire university\, and on graduating\, was awarded a travel grant to study 
 Renaissance Art in Italy. The resulting work was awarded first prize in th
 e Sefton Open\, followed shortly with his first solo Public exhibition at 
 the Atkinson Art gallery\, Southport.\n\nMeaghan was chosen as one of thre
 e emerging artists to exhibit alongside Turner Prize winners Chris Ofili a
 nd Keith Tyson in ‘Exposed- Art and Culture in England’s North West’
  and was shortlisted for the Liverpool Art Prize in 2009. He has exhibited
  widely both nationally and internationally and has future exhibitions pla
 nned for Liverpool\, London\, Copenhagen\, Denmark\, Berlin\, Germany and 
 Brussels\, Belgium.\n\nDates\n\nWinter Session 2018\, Tuesday evenings fro

  course booking your are committed to it. This is because our courses have
  very small student numbers\, and often sell-out and are unavailable to ot
