 ichard Meaghan

nExplore and investigate a broad range of traditional and contemporary pai
nting processes and practices\, focusing on the use of acrylics\, with rek
nowned artist and experienced teacher Richard Meaghan. Suitable for all le
vels\, including beginners.\n\nProgram\nThis painting course will be open
to all abilities from complete beginners who haven’t done art since scho
ol\, to those who use art as a hobby\, as well as artists wanting help dev
eloping their own work and practise.\n\nOver the course of 10 weeks\, you
will develop your awareness of painting as a unique means of visual commun
ication. Through practical work you will consolidate your knowledge of vis
ual grammar and expand your visual literacy. You will consider how ideas\,
information and feelings can be articulated\, transformed and conveyed th
rough visual systems\, processes and conventions. As well as having the op
portunity to reflect on historical precedents and draw upon your own exper
iences\, you will be encouraged to explore your own aesthetic abilities an
d visual judgements which will form a fundamental part of your practise.\n
During the course you will be asked to explore and develop ideas relating
to your own "Personal Environment". This will involve the processes of res
earch\, development of ideas and the design and production of work relatin
g to the brief.\n\nYou should focus on making work that relates to your ow
n experience of being in the world. This may relate to home or work life\,
landscape or nature as you see it\, remember or imagine it. It could also
  relate to hobbies or interests\, film\, media\, politics\, religion\, spo
rt etc etc and can incorporate any number of differing experiences that ma
ke reference to who you are.\n\nAs artists we have a whole array of intere
sts and ideas but how do we make art with all this stuff?\n\nThis course w
ill give you the opportunity to use your imagination and develop those inv
entive processes alongside traditional and contemporary techniques. You wi
ll make art as an artist does and develop your project from its conceptual
beginning to its physical end. The course will help you develop a deeper
understanding of art and how as practitioners we think and realise work.\n
This course provides skill based learning in order to deepen the understan
ding and applications of the visual language that surrounds us. During the
10 weeks you will build up to the creation of your own finished painting
in acrylics as follows:\nWeek 1: The importance of drawing (gradation stud
 y).\nWeek 2: Colour theory.\nWeek 3: Underpainting (grisaille study).\nWee
