Students will be invi ted to share (if they wish) the kind of abstract art they find appealing a nd what they would like to develop themselves.\n\nFollowing this\, we will focus on colour. We will look at examples of artists who have magnified a nd celebrated colour in their work\, and use acrylic paint to make our own experimental pieces that celebrate colour.\n\nWe will look at contrasting colour\, paint opacity/transparency and experiment layering lights over d arks\, darks over lights\, bright over dull\, blending edges etc. We will have time for appraisal and feedback\, appreciating different people’s r eactions and responses to our work.\n\nWe will experiment with different w ays of applying colour: brushing\, sponging\, scraping\, using different t ools and textured items to apply paint with.\n\nDay 2 will focus on compos ition\, space and movement. This will improve the ability to isolate visua l information and notice the essential qualities of a painting\, which wil l in turn help us distinguish and employ differing abstract techniques.\n\ nWe will practise locating a focal area in various examples\, and determin ing what kind of movement has been used to make a painting. We will do som e intuitive exercises to discover our own unique “movement” – wavy l ines\, straight lines\, splatters\, random\, controlled\, etc. We will loo k at shapes and use the shapes that appeal to us to create our own origina l pieces of art.\n\nWe will look at opposites: saturated and neutral\, dar k and light\, busy and quiet\, textured and flat.\n\nLooking into the arra ngement of these elements and their relationship to one another we will le arn how to put these together onto paper/canvas\, producing aesthetically pleasing arrangements and patterns.\n\nDay 3 will combine concepts from da ys 1 and 2\, plus experimentation with layering for depth\, self-exploring \, and how to be “confidently spontaneous and intuitive”.\n\nWe will b e given the opportunity to choose from different loose “themes” which we will interpret with our own creativity and style.\n\n“Themes” exerc ises:– Scientific Exploration – Musical Energy – Peace and Simplicit y – Softness – Clash and Disorder - Invisible Currents - Intersections \n\nEvery student will receive specific and individual feedback\, suggesti ons\, encouragement and advice from the tutor throughout\, with the freedo m to be as vocal or as quiet as desired during discussion times.\n\nThis c ourse will give you opportunities for improving practical skills\; practis ing both inward reflection and outward appreciation\; and developing your unique artistic voice.\n\nDates\n\nSundays from 11:30am - 4pm 3rd October\ n\n3\, 10\, 17 October\n\nVenue\n\nBluecoat\, School Lane\, Liverpool\, L1 3BX\n\nSituated in the centre of Liverpool\, just behind Church Street\, down Church Alley and in front of Liverpool ONE.
