SUMMARY:Bluecoat Display Centre: Bluecoat Display Centre: Walter Keeler Sol
 o
DESCRIPTION:Bluecoat Display Centre: Walter Keeler Solo \n\nSaturday 1st O
ctober – Saturday 12th November 2016\nPrivate View: Friday 30th Septembe
 r 2016\, 5.30pm – 7.30pm\n\nBluecoat Display Centre are delighted to pre
sent a solo exhibition of around 30 ceramics by the acclaimed potter Walte
r Keeler.\n\nA potter of international reputation\, Walter Keeler has done
much to reinvent the language of British functional ceramics over the pas
t thirty years\, and has been hugely influential\, both as maker and teach
er.\n\nBorn in London but now based in South Wales\, Walter Keeler’s car
eer has spanned over four decades\, and has brought him recognition throug
 h his beautiful forms\, salt glazes\, and lustrous ink-wash pieces.\n\nIns
pired largely by the British pottery tradition and the history of ceramics
in general\, his work nonetheless continues to be innovative and contempo
rary. Walter Keeler’s work captures the imagination with its beauty and
charm. His practice bridges the gap between the functional and the decorat
ive\, his attention to detail and inventive use of shape allow his pieces
to take on a witty character of their own.\n\n‘Sometimes I make simple u
seful things like mugs or jugs\, on other occasions my work is less straig
htforward\, making demands\, even challenging the user to negotiate with a
n unexpected pot to do an ordinary job. I hope my pottery brings with its
seriousness\, some humour and sensual pleasure’ \n– Walter Keeler
