SUMMARY:Bluecoat Display Centre: Bluecoat Display Centre: Irena Sibrijns: I
 n the Window
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce our ‘In the Window’ maker for
July will be Irena Sibrijns.\n\n“I use white earthenware decorated with
coloured slips and a variety of decorating techniques such as sgraffito\,
slip trailing\, wax and latex resist.\n\nFor the last 30 years I have been
working as a full time potter both in France and England.\n\nMy work has
developed into a mixture of utilitarian ware and decorative pieces. Most w
ork starts out on the wheel\, with some more decorative pieces being hand-
built. Designs grow around specific themes\, but each piece is unique and
individually decorated. The style of the work springs from the English 20t
h Century decorative arts tradition. Many of the themes used in my work ar
e derived from living on the Suffolk coast\, treated with varying levels o
 f abstraction.\n\nEverything created\, either functional or decorative\, h
as equal importance\, and the integrity of this thought is the driving for
ce behind my daily practice as a potter.” – Irena Sibrijns
