SUMMARY:Bluecoat Display Centre: Bluecoat Display Centre: In The Window: Ja
 cob Chan
DESCRIPTION:To start 2022\, we are delighted to show a new group of work by
local ceramicist\nJacob Chan.\n\n"My work is a combination of wheel throw
n and figurative vessels that are heavily based around my cultural backgro
und and heritage. My ceramics are soda fired in a gas kiln which reaches a
top temperature of 1300c this process allows me to achieve a range of dee
p colours and surface textures unachievable in an electric kiln.\n\nBeing
half Chinese and half English\, my ceramics take inspiration from traditio
nal oriental shapes and forms whilst focusing on mythical figures as surfa
ce decoration.\n\nThis new collection of work displays a range of ceremoni
al teapots and a group of smaller vessels referred to as miniatures\, all
of the pieces are gilded with 24k gold leaf and inlayed with a blue sapphi
re which is colour specific to the Bluecoat Display Centre.” – Jacob C
