SUMMARY:Bluecoat Display Centre: Bluecoat Display Centre: In The Window: Ja
 cob Chan
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce that local ceramicist Jacob Chan w
ill be ‘In the Window’ from 14 January- 10 February\, to celebrate Lun
ar New Year.\n\nJacob has developed a new body of work specially for this
window installation entitled ‘Zodiac’\n‘The 12 Chinese zodiac animal
s hold deep symbolic significance\, representing various aspects of person
ality\, life\, and the natural world. Each animal embodies unique traits a
nd energies\, reflecting cycles of transformation\, growth\, and wisdom. F
or me\, these animals are not only a part of cultural heritage but also po
werful symbols that resonate with my own journey and experiences.\nThrough
the creation of this body of artwork\, which includes ceramics\, painting
s\, and jewellery\, I aim to explore and express the profound meanings beh
ind each zodiac animal. The ceramic pieces capture the tactile essence and
durability of the animals’ characteristics\, while the paintings bring
to life their energy and symbolism in vivid\, visual form. The jewellery p
ieces serve as intimate\, wearable representations\, allowing these symbol
s to connect on a personal level with those who interact with them.\nThis
collection is an exploration of balance\, strength\, vulnerability\, and t
he unique qualities that each zodiac animal represents. It reflects my des
ire to share these timeless symbols with others and to celebrate the rich
cultural significance they hold\, while also infusing my own interpretatio
n and connection to them through the medium of art’.- Jacob Chan\n&nbsp\
;\n\nBluecoat Display Centre has been awarded funding by the Ulrike Michal
Foundation for the Arts to enable this window installation.
