d a booking fee and pay by card\, cheque or cash\, please contact dot-art
 Services directly on 0345 017 6660***\n\nTuesdays 6.45pm - 9pm starting 2n
 d October 2018 (£160 for 10 sessions)\n\n\nProgram\n\n\nThis painting cou
rse will be open to all abilities from complete beginners who haven’t do
ne art since school\, to those who use art as a hobby\, as well as artists
wanting help developing their own work and practise.\n\n\nOver the course
of 10 weeks\, you will develop your awareness of painting as a unique mea
ns of visual communication. Through practical work you will consolidate yo
ur knowledge of visual grammar and expand your visual literacy. You will c
onsider how ideas\, information and feelings can be articulated\, transfor
med and conveyed through visual systems\, processes and conventions. As we
ll as having the opportunity to reflect on historical precedents and draw
upon your own experiences\, you will be encouraged to explore your own aes
thetic abilities and visual judgements which will form a fundamental part
of your practise.\n\nDuring the course you will be asked to explore and de
velop ideas relating to your own "Personal Environment". This will involve
the processes of research\, development of ideas and the design and produ
ction of work relating to the brief.\n\nYou should focus on making work th
at relates to your own experience of being in the world. This may relate t
o home or work life\, landscape or nature as you see it\, remember or imag
ine it. It could also relate to hobbies or interests\, film\, media\, poli
tics\, religion\, sport etc etc and can incorporate any number of differin
g experiences that make reference to who you are.\n\nAs artists we have a
whole array of interests and ideas but how do we make art with all this st
uff?\n\nThis course will give you the opportunity to use your imagination
and develop those inventive processes alongside traditional and contempora
ry techniques. You will make art as an artist does and develop your projec
t from its conceptual beginning to its physical end. The course will help
you develop a deeper understanding of art and how as practitioners we thin
k and realise work.\n\nThis course provides skill based learning in order
to deepen the understanding and applications of the visual language that s
urrounds us. During the 10 weeks you will build up to the creation of your
own finished painting in acrylics as follows:\n\nWeek 1: The importance o
 f drawing (gradation study).\nWeek 2: Colour theory.\nWeek 3: Underpaintin
 g (grisaille study).\nWeek 4: Chroma (still life study).\nWeek 5: Inventio
 n and composition.\nWeeks 6-10: Individual project.\n\nTutor: Richard Meag
han\n\nProfessional artist Richard is currently based in a studio at Metal
in Liverpool. He studied Fine Art at Staffordshire university\, and on gr
aduating\, was awarded a travel grant to study Renaissance Art in Italy. T
he resulting work was awarded first prize in the Sefton Open\, followed sh
ortly with his first solo Public exhibition at the Atkinson Art gallery\,
Southport.\n\nMeaghan was chosen as one of three emerging artists to exhib
it alongside Turner Prize winners Chris Ofili and Keith Tyson in ‘Expose
d- Art and Culture in England’s North West’ and was shortlisted for th
