 \nProgram\n\n\nThis painting course will be open to all abilities from com
 plete beginners who haven’t done art since school\, to those who use art
  as a hobby\, as well as artists wanting help developing their own work an
 d practise.\n\n\nOver the course of 10 weeks\, you will develop your aware
 ness of painting as a unique means of visual communication. Through practi
 cal work you will consolidate your knowledge of visual grammar and expand 
 your visual literacy. You will consider how ideas\, information and feelin
 gs can be articulated\, transformed and conveyed through visual systems\, 
 processes and conventions. As well as having the opportunity to reflect on
  historical precedents and draw upon your own experiences\, you will be en
 couraged to explore your own aesthetic abilities and visual judgements whi
 ch will form a fundamental part of your practise.\n\nDuring the course you
  will be asked to explore and develop ideas relating to your own "Personal
  Environment". This will involve the processes of research\, development o
 f ideas and the design and production of work relating to the brief.\n\nYo
 u should focus on making work that relates to your own experience of being
  in the world. This may relate to home or work life\, landscape or nature 
 as you see it\, remember or imagine it. It could also relate to hobbies or
  interests\, film\, media\, politics\, religion\, sport etc etc and can in
 corporate any number of differing experiences that make reference to who y
 ou are.\n\nAs artists we have a whole array of interests and ideas but how
  do we make art with all this stuff?\n\nThis course will give you the oppo
 rtunity to use your imagination and develop those inventive processes alon
 gside traditional and contemporary techniques. You will make art as an art
 ist does and develop your project from its conceptual beginning to its phy
 sical end. The course will help you develop a deeper understanding of art 
 and how as practitioners we think and realise work.\n\nThis course provide
 s skill based learning in order to deepen the understanding and applicatio
 ns of the visual language that surrounds us. During the 10 weeks you will 
 build up to the creation of your own finished painting in acrylics as foll
 ows:\n\nWeek 1: The importance of drawing (gradation study).\nWeek 2: Colo
 ur theory.\nWeek 3: Underpainting (grisaille study).\nWeek 4: Chroma (stil
 l life study).\nWeek 5: Invention and composition.\nWeeks 6-10: Individual
  project.\n\nTutor: Richard Meaghan\n\nProfessional artist Richard is curr
 ently based in a studio at Metal in Liverpool. He studied Fine Art at Staf
 fordshire university\, and on graduating\, was awarded a travel grant to s
 tudy Renaissance Art in Italy. The resulting work was awarded first prize 
 in the Sefton Open\, followed shortly with his first solo Public exhibitio
 n at the Atkinson Art gallery\, Southport.\n\nMeaghan was chosen as one of
  three emerging artists to exhibit alongside Turner Prize winners Chris Of
 ili and Keith Tyson in ‘Exposed- Art and Culture in England’s North We
 st’ and was shortlisted for the Liverpool Art Prize in 2009. He has exhi
 bited widely both nationally and internationally and has future exhibition
 s planned for Liverpool\, London\, Copenhagen\, Denmark\, Berlin\, Germany
  and Brussels\, Belgium.\n\nDates\n\nWinter Session 2019\, Tuesday evening
