 is painting course will be open to all abilities from complete beginners w
 ho haven’t done art since school\, to those who use art as a hobby\, as 
 well as artists wanting help developing their own work and practise.\n\n\n
 Over the course of 10 weeks\, you will develop your awareness of painting 
 as a unique means of visual communication. Through practical work you will
  consolidate your knowledge of visual grammar and expand your visual liter
 acy. You will consider how ideas\, information and feelings can be articul
 ated\, transformed and conveyed through visual systems\, processes and con
 ventions. As well as having the opportunity to reflect on historical prece
 dents and draw upon your own experiences\, you will be encouraged to explo
 re your own aesthetic abilities and visual judgements which will form a fu
 ndamental part of your practise.\n\nDuring the course you will be asked to
  explore and develop ideas relating to your own "Personal Environment". Th
 is will involve the processes of research\, development of ideas and the d
 esign and production of work relating to the brief.\n\nYou should focus on
  making work that relates to your own experience of being in the world. Th
 is may relate to home or work life\, landscape or nature as you see it\, r
 emember or imagine it. It could also relate to hobbies or interests\, film
 \, media\, politics\, religion\, sport etc etc and can incorporate any num
 ber of differing experiences that make reference to who you are.\n\nAs art
 ists we have a whole array of interests and ideas but how do we make art w
 ith all this stuff?\n\nThis course will give you the opportunity to use yo
 ur imagination and develop those inventive processes alongside traditional
  and contemporary techniques. You will make art as an artist does and deve
 lop your project from its conceptual beginning to its physical end. The co
 urse will help you develop a deeper understanding of art and how as practi
 tioners we think and realise work.\n\nThis course provides skill based lea
 rning in order to deepen the understanding and applications of the visual 
 language that surrounds us. During the 10 weeks you will build up to the c
 reation of your own finished painting in acrylics as follows:\n\nWeek 1: T
 he importance of drawing (gradation study).\nWeek 2: Colour theory.\nWeek 
 3: Underpainting (grisaille study).\nWeek 4: Chroma (still life study).\nW
 eek 5: Invention and composition.\nWeeks 6-10: Individual project.\n\nTuto
 r: Richard Meaghan\n\nProfessional artist Richard is currently based in a 
 studio at Metal in Liverpool. He studied Fine Art at Staffordshire univers
 ity\, and on graduating\, was awarded a travel grant to study Renaissance 
 Art in Italy. The resulting work was awarded first prize in the Sefton Ope
 n\, followed shortly with his first solo Public exhibition at the Atkinson
  Art gallery\, Southport.\n\nMeaghan was chosen as one of three emerging a
 rtists to exhibit alongside Turner Prize winners Chris Ofili and Keith Tys
 on in ‘Exposed- Art and Culture in England’s North West’ and was sho
 rtlisted for the Liverpool Art Prize in 2009. He has exhibited widely both
  nationally and internationally and has future exhibitions planned for Liv
 erpool\, London\, Copenhagen\, Denmark\, Berlin\, Germany and Brussels\, B
 elgium.\n\nDates\n\nSpring Session 2018\, Tuesday evenings from 6.45 - 9pm
