SUMMARY:Bluecoat: Bluecoat: Abstract Painting (3 x Sundays)
DESCRIPTION:Learn the wonders of abstract painting across this 3 day course
with the guidance of our expert Artist Tutor. Suitable for newcomers and
for more experienced painters wanting to try something new and exciting.\n
\n***To avoid a booking fee and pay by card\, cheque or cash\, please cont
 act dot-art Services directly on 0345 017 6660***\n\nSundays from 12pm - 4
 pm starting 1st October (£135 for 3-day sessions)\n\nProgramme\n\nSuitabl
e for newcomers and for more experienced painters wanting to try something
new and exciting.\n\nDay 1 will begin with an introduction to abstract ar
t\, and a discussion about what art means today as a visual manifestation
of human expression. Students will be invited to share (if they wish) the
kind of abstract art they find appealing and what they would like to devel
op themselves.\n\nFollowing this\, we will focus on colour. We will look a
t examples of artists who have magnified and celebrated colour in their wo
rk\, and use acrylic paint to make our own experimental pieces that celebr
ate colour.\n\nWe will look at contrasting colour\, paint opacity/transpar
ency and experiment layering lights over darks\, darks over lights\, brigh
t over dull\, blending edges etc. We will have time for appraisal and feed
back\, appreciating different people’s reactions and responses to our wo
rk.\n\nWe will experiment with different ways of applying colour: brushing
\, sponging\, scraping\, using different tools and textured items to apply
paint with.\n\nDay 2 will focus on composition\, space and mark making. T
his will improve the ability to isolate visual information and notice the
essential qualities of a painting\, which will in turn help us distinguish
and employ differing abstract techniques.\n\nWe will practise locating a
focal area in various examples\, and how to emphasise this by mark making.
Intuitive exercises will help us to discover our own unique marks and voi
 ce – wavy lines\, straight lines\, splatters\, random\, controlled\, etc
. We will look at shapes and use the shapes that appeal to us to create ou
r own original pieces of art.\n\nWe will look at opposites: saturated and
neutral\, dark and light\, busy and quiet\, textured and flat.\n\nLooking
into the arrangement of these elements and their relationship to one anoth
er we will learn how to put these together onto paper/canvas\, producing a
esthetically pleasing arrangements and patterns.\n\nDay 3 will combine con
cepts from days 1 and 2\, plus experimentation with layering for depth\, s
elf-exploring\, and how to be “confidently spontaneous and intuitive”.
\n\nWe will be given the opportunity to choose from different loose “the
mes” which we will interpret with our own creativity and style.\n\nExamp
le “Themes”:– Portraiture – Musical Energy – Peace and Simplicit
 y – Softness – Clash and Disorder - Invisible Currents – Intersectio
ns – Melancholy.\n\nEvery student will receive specific and individual f
eedback\, suggestions\, encouragement and advice from the tutor throughout
\, with the freedom to be as vocal or as quiet as desired during discussio
n times.\n\nThis course will give you opportunities for improving practica
l skills\; practising both inward reflection and outward appreciation\; an
 d developing your unique artistic voice.\n\nDates\n\nSundays from 12pm - 4
