SUMMARY:Bombed Out Church (St Luke's): Amy Flynn: Technofossils : I
DESCRIPTION:An Independents Biennial Exhibition\n\nTechnofossils : I\nAmy F
 lynn\n\nMATERIALS:  Pewter\, Glass Crystals\n“This display is availabl
e to view during the Bombed Out Church’s open days. For dates and times\
 , please visit www.slboc.com/whats-on.”\n\nTechnofossils are human-mad
e objects and materials that will persist in the geological record for mil
lions of years. The monstrous amount of stuff we make and discard is creat
ing a distinct new layer in the Earth’s crust.\n\nEveryday ephemera is p
iling up beneath our feet\, this installation presents a horrifying glimps
e into the future\, one where our collective waste has begun to seep throu
gh cracks in the earth\, rising to the surface and permeating the structur
e of the city. The ruinous form of St Luke’s Bombed Out Church\, a symbo
l of destruction and resilience\, lies encrusted in a synthetic assemblage
of Technofossils.\n\nAmy’s pewter cast sculptures are deliberately all
uring at first glance\, sparkling gemstones and shiny metal entice the vie
wer in. Only on closer inspection are the contours of outdated mobile phon
es and plastic food containers revealed\; rubbish masquerading as treasure
. This journey through desire and disgust mimics the cycle of consumerism.
Numerous themes of duality are at play here: artificial/organic\, worthle
 ss/precious\, temporary/permanent\, growth/decay.\n\nThis commissioned art
work draws on Amy’s practice as a jeweller with a strong focus on materi
ality and handcraft. Formed by casting waste artefacts in sand\, her fabri
cated Technofossils are tactile by their very nature. Their composition\
, inspired by growth forms of Lichen\, responds to this site\, evoking the
qualities of a living organism.\n\nAmy invites the public to experience t
his artwork through touch\, please be gentle when doing so. This piece is
part of a series\, with another work exhibited in Port Sunlight Village on
  the Wirral.\n\n@drippedgoods\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAbout Bombed Out Church:\n\n&n
 bsp\;\n\n\nSt Luke’s Bombed‑Out Church is one of Liverpool’s most
iconic cultural landmarks — a roofless\, historic shell of a former
parish church struck by an incendiary bomb during World War II\, now re
imagined as a contemporary space for arts\, culture\, and community outrea
ch. Events and projects dovetail with Heritage Open Days\, a schools progr
 amme\, weddings\, volunteering opportunities\, and a seasonal garden bar a
nd café\, keeping the site open as a working monument to the resilience a
nd heart of Liverpool.\nThe displays are available to view during the Bomb
ed Out Church’s open days. For dates and times\, please visit www.slboc
 .com/whats-on.\n
