Old, damaged books have been reclaimed and transformed and find their place again on the book shelves of Allerton Library.
Their common function as carriers of information has been removed and we now see them as physical objects. They remain incredibly powerful as they still carry invisible memories, stories and fragments of the past, as well as our projection for the future.

Books have now been challenged by the computer screen and electronic text but their symbolic life cannot be replaced. The acts of holding, touching, browsing, feeling, create physical and emotional experiences.
Nostalgic connections remain with us forever.

Places where we read books are also very important and public library should be thriving as places of exchange, discovery, well being for the community. They should therefore be celebrated for their true place in our culture and history
