SUMMARY:A Small View: A Small View: Carnival - Inga Lineviciute Solo Show
DESCRIPTION:Open Event Thursday 6 August 2015 15.00 - 17.00\n\nContinues
 Friday 7 –  Saturday 29 August 2015\, or by appointment\n\nAn Inga Line
viciute Solo Show\n\nCarnival\n‘Carnival’ is an exhibition consisting
of two animations\, which draws an image of a\ncommon dinner party\, refle
cting the social and cultural issues surrounding such\nvaried feasts. Insp
ired by real characters and celebration methods\, the artist\nquestions th
e importance and the reasons underlining these festivities\, echoing a\nti
me when it used to be a ritual\, a performed sacrifice to propitiate and w
orship the\ngods.\n\nThe two pieces\, both entitled ‘Carnival’\, repre
sent a feast with huge amounts of food\nand drink\, inducing unconscious b
ehaviour that aims to fulfill secret desires and let\nnatural instinct tak
e over. These animations talk about the primitive impulses we are\nconfron
ted with on a daily basis\, raising the question\; who is responsible for
the\nconsequences? In the context of post-modern culture\, the story prese
nts a ritual\,\nwhere people would honor the gods for the goods they recei
ved by means of a feast\,\nwhile now its only purpose is to meet our expec
tations.\n\nThrough the use of animation\, Inga Lineviciute has created a
 surreal narrative\ndealing with drama\, flirtation\, jealousy\, lust and a
nger. Inga uses drawing as a tool to\nillustrate repetitive actions that r
emain absurd and never ending.\nCarnival is the outcome of returning back
home to Lithuania after living and studying\nin England for 3 years\, visi
ting relatives and attending their 5-course dinners\,\nlistening to their
stories and being asked if anybody wishes to slaughter the pig. It is\nals
o a mixture of situations that occurred at pubs and other venues.\nThe pro
jected moving-image works are identical\, however one shows the image from
\na distance\, while another shows what is under the table. Together they
support each\nother and reveal what can’t be unseen.\n\nA Small View\nOp
 en Fridays 12pm – 5pm and Saturdays 10am – 1pm\nGostins Arcade 32-36\,
 \nHanover Street\,\nLiverpool\nL1 4LN
