DESCRIPTION:Sunday 24 January 2016\, 13.00 - 16.00\n\nChildren are learning
  to build robots\, before watching Sci Fi classic Silent Running at the Li
 verpool Small Cinema this Sunday.\n\nFREE EVENT! Just drop-in\, to the Sma
 ll Cinema!\n\nPlants &amp\; Robots is a free\, family-friendly\, plant-bas
 ed electronic art workshop for budding musicians\, inventors and artists t
 aking place at the Liverpool Small Cinema this Sunday between 1pm &amp\; 4
 pm.\n\nChildren will learn how to make a plant watering robot\, using Rasp
 berry Pi computers\, and create electronic units that turn plants into mus
 ical instruments. The workshop will take place at the Liverpool Small Cine
 ma\, 57-59 Victoria Street\, Liverpool\, L1 6DE\n\nThe event brings togeth
 er activities from FACT's Plants &amp\; Robots schools program\, with arti
 st Laura Pullig's Plants as Performers residency at METAL.\n\nPlants &amp\
 ; Synths\nLaura Pullig is currently on a residency at Metal\, Liverpool ex
 ploring plants as interfaces and performers. She has been working with mus
 ician Adam Cooper to create analog electronic instruments which can be att
 ached to and played by touching plants. You can come and try out the plant
  synths they’ve been making and create music by interacting with plants 
 to make interesting sounds. There will also be demos of plant speakers and
  you can test out a paper prototype of a plant synth kit.\n\nPlants &amp\;
  Robots\nChildren from year 5 in primary schools across St.Helens worked w
 ith FACT\, and Re-Dock artist Neil Winterburn to create robots that water 
 plants when their soil is dry. Participants aged 5 and above will be shown
  how to use a Raspberry Pi mini-computer and the Scratch programming langu
 age to trigger robot arms to water plants only if their soil is dry.\n\nSa
 m Meech - Re-Dock Director and founder of the Liverpool Small Cinema\, sai
 d: “It’s great that we are starting to see the small cinema used as a 
 space for family workshops\, not many cinemas teach kids how to make robot
