SUMMARY:17 Love Lane: 17 Love Lane: Hugh Miller presents: The Coffee Ceremo
 ny
DESCRIPTION:Hugh Miller presents: THE COFFEE CEREMONY 19 April 2018\nfrom 5
.00\n\nThree years ago\, designer and furniture maker Hugh Miller set out
on a journey prompted by a desire to learn more about traditional Japanese
woodworking techniques. However\, what he gained from his travels to Japa
n proved to be much more than a practical knowledge of construction method
 s. He came to appreciate how Japanese tools and traditions were part of a
whole philosophy of making.\n\nFrom the experience\, Hugh absorbed three p
rinciples that now underpin his work: an absence of noise\; a search for l
ightness\; and a contribution to harmony. These were the basis for his fir
st collection\, The Coffee Ceremony\, a homage to the Japanese tea ceremon
 y. This exquisite collection of furniture and utensils has been exhibited
widely\, including shows at the Saatchi Gallery in London and in South Kor
ea at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale.\n\nYou are invited to joi
n Hugh in a unique event taking place in Liverpool - part lecture\, part p
erformance\, part discussion - conceived in collaboration with 17 Love Lan
e and the Bluecoat Display Centre. This event will go beyond the usual gal
lery conventions to present the Coffee Ceremony collection in a dynamic wa
 y. It will be an unmissable opportunity to engage with\, handle\, and expe
rience these beautiful objects in precisely the way the maker intended - i
 n use.\n\nProgramme\n\n6:30pm Introduction\n7:15pm The Coffee Ceremony\n8:
