Local artist Susan Finch is best known for her popular paintings of Liverpool, including the iconic waterfront, Sefton Park Palm House and the area around Hope Street. In this new exhibition for dot-art, Hearts and Flowers, she presents a powerful new collection of drawings and paintings; expressionistic in style, employing vibrant colour, broken text and shadowy figures to evoke memory, emotion and desire.
Susan Finch was born in Scotland but has lived in Liverpool since she was seven. In 1980 she completed a Foundation Course at Liverpool Polytechnic and it was here that her interest in life drawing and the figure in Art began and it remains a powerful and resonant influence on her work today. She went on to study Fine Art at Manchester Polytechnic and as a student, she exhibited at the Royal Academy and Manchester Academy of Art. Since then, Susan has had solo exhibitions at the Greenbank Restaurant, Blackburne House and is also a regular exhibitor at the Liverpool Academy of Arts.
The artist’s distinctive style, with its intricate detailing, whimsical elements and vibrant colours can still be seen in these new works, however they mark a turn towards abstraction, symbolism and romanticism and demonstrate Susan’s great versatility in her use of paint.
