Socially Engaged Photographer in Residence (Prescot), Open Eye Gallery

Photographer in Residence – Prescot, Knowsley (£10.500 over 3 years)

Picturing England’s High Street is a three-year project which includes six photographer-in-residence programmes at six high street locations across England, as well as artist mentoring and a digital nationwide mass participation project. This Open Call is for the photographer-in-residence programme in Prescot High Streets Heritage Action Zone.

High street users and the community are at the heart of this project and we are looking for photographers whose practice is socially engaged. We are proposing a way of working rather than a thematic or visual approach.

About the Prescot High Streets Heritage Action Zone and core partners

The residency will be developed within the context of a wider programme at a local level, Prescot High Streets Heritage Action Zone, which builds on the momentum of the Shakespeare North Playhouse development and Prescot’s role in Knowsley’s Borough of Culture status for 2022.

Community engagement projects are being developed by partner Shakespeare North Playhouse and with broader High Streets Heritage Action Zone partners built around local priorities for health, wellbeing and social inclusion. Ultimately the High Street Heritage Action Zone area is establishing itself as a cultural hub and leisure destination.

We are looking for a photographer who has an interest in Prescot High Streets Heritage Action Zone and whose practice embraces the opportunity to co-author the project with the local community. We would welcome applications from socially engaged photographers with a connection to Prescot or Knowsley – although this is not essential.
