The Contemporary Young Artist Award at The Biscuit Factory

The Contemporary Young Artist Award, created by The Biscuit Factory Foundation, the charitable arm of The Biscuit Factory – the UK’s largest independent art, craft and design gallery – provides artists aged 35 and under with a unique commercial platform to showcase their work. Along with the opportunity for a solo show at The Biscuit Factory in 2021, the winner will also be awarded £2000 within the overall prize package.

Submissions are accepted across a range of media, including paintings, photography, handmade prints, sculpture, glass, ceramics and textiles, before 26 January 2020. The gallery’s in-house curatorial team will then select the overall winner.

A group exhibition featuring work from all of the shortlisted entrants will sit as the headline show for their Spring Exhibition (6 March – 24 May). The public can also vote for their People’s Choice Winner, who will be awarded £500.

All work in the exhibition will be for sale, with 10 per cent of proceeds going back to The Biscuit Factory Foundation to facilitate an engaging and varied programme of creative opportunities for artists in the North East of England.

HOW TO ENTER – Fill in a submission form here. Please submit only one art work per application. The Biscuit Factory is willing to accept up to three applications from each artist. Any submissions exceeding this limit will not be eligible for inclusion in the exhibition. They also do not accept submissions of film, performance or installation. Please read the opportunity FAQs at for full Terms and Conditions.
