StudioBook 2017
Call for applications
Professional development opportunity for artists

Deadline for applications: 5pm Friday 14 April 2017

Mark Devereux Projects invites applications from UK based visual artists for StudioBook; an intensive development programme designed for early to mid-career artists.

Building on a highly successful inaugural programme in 2015, StudioBook will provide participants with two weeks of concentrated seminars, workshops and one-to-one mentoring sessions, led by established artists, curators and arts professionals.

StudioBook also provides selected artists with on going mentoring by Mark Devereux Projects, the chance to apply for a dedicated £2,000 commission and acquisition with the University of Salford Art Collection and an exhibition/public talk opportunity.

Programme

StudioBook aims to nurture individual artist development and practice by offering practical guidance, including:

• how to get your work seen
• identifying your audiences
• writing and talking about your work
• writing proposals and applications
• finance and funding guidance
• sales, commissions and representation
• promotion and marketing
• public engagement and socially engaged practice
• documenting your work and working in video
• portfolio review sessions
• strategic planning

StudioBook Fortnight

StudioBook is structured around a two-week intensive programme that all participants are required to attend.

StudioBook fortnight: Monday 17 July – Friday 28 July 2017
Venue: Old Granada Studios, Manchester, Quay Street, Manchester M3 3JE

Running from Monday to Friday, with optional activities planned during the middle weekend, each day is split into dedicated sessions including refreshments and lunch. These sessions will include time for questions, discussion and critical feedback. There will also be time for social activity and engagement with the Manchester cultural scene throughout the programme.

Mentoring

Following StudioBook fortnight, all artists will continue to receive mentoring sessions from Mark Devereux Projects until late November 2017.

StudioBook Exhibition and Commission

A public exhibition featuring all StudioBook artists will be held at Old Granada Studios in November. This will include a public talk/crit featuring all artists.

All StudioBook participants will be invited to apply for a special Ā£2,000 commission and acquisition with the University of Salford Art Collection, in which the selected work will be placed within the university’s permanent collection.

Costs

StudioBook costs approximately £1,700 per artist to deliver. However, we have secured Arts Council England funding to cover the majority of these costs.

The total cost to each artist is £180.

Costs for the programme apply to successful applicants only – there is no charge to apply.
