Deadline: Wednesday 13 April 2016, 5pm.
£20,500 – £24,000
St Helens Libraries Local History and Archives would like to commission an artist/arts organisation or arts collective to respond to the Jordan and Metcalfe Photography Collection therefore bringing the collection to life and encouraging the wider public to engage with the photographs. This commission is open to artist(s) working in any art-form (visual arts, music, theatre, creative writing, dance or combined arts) with a passion to engage with the public through a creative process. The Artist Residency will run between June 2016 and March 2017.
The Jordan and Metcalfe Photography Collection is a collection of 3000 glass negatives rescued from the sealed-up backroom of a pet shop in St Helens in 1984.
The Artist Residency is part of a wider project: St Helens Through The
Lens: The Jordan and Metcalfe Photography Collection. St Helens Libraries Local History and Archives has received funding from the Heritage Lottery
Fund: Your Heritage programme to engage St Helens residents in uncovering the local history documented in the Jordan and Metcalfe Photography Collection.
The Artist in Residence will be the driving force in engaging the community in this journey, bringing the project to life through revealing hidden stories of St Helens.
Please note we do not have any preferred art-form or a bias to any specific form of engagement with the public. We are looking for an artist that is
genuinely interested in using the Jordan and Metcalfe Photography
Collection as a starting point and that can engage in an imaginative way with the resource.
The Artist in Residence will run between June 2016 and March 2017. There will be flexibility within this period and around which days the Artist(s) will be working from venues in St Helens.
