The Whitworth and Whitworth Park
A warped weekend beneath the trees of art, music, performance and the unexpected. Exploring themes of Folklore, Trees and Memory A weekend arts festival programmed by the Whitworth Young Contemporaries, young people aged 15-25 to celebrate the installation of a new sculpture in the park by artist Anya Gallaccio.
CIRCUIT: Whitworth Young Contemporaries is a flagship engagement programme by,with and for young people. As well as being a place to socialise and develop creative skills, it is a platform for young people to showcase their work and ideas. The Whitworth has commissioned artist Anya Gallaccio to make a new sculpture for Whitworth Park. Her commission explores the loss of a single tree that had died. Gallaccio’s sculpture will echo a memory of the original tree; recalling but not replicating what once was there.
Our Grand Hall will be the Cinema Room for the event. As part of the programme we are looking for short films made by young people aged 15-25 years to showcase on our big screen on Saturday 25thJune. The films must reflect the festival themes of Folklore, Trees or Memory. Some things to think about…
