Anna FC Smith is undertaking a research project on the unique custom of Boxing Day fancy dress in Wigan. The main outcome of this research will be a large processional figure/sculpture which will be paraded through Wigan town centre on the 14th of April.

The parade will be inspired by UK folk mummers processions, Walking day traditions from the North West and pub and club night life. It may also include a marching band.

Smith is looking for a choreographer to work with her to develop and coordinate a group of dancers or volunteers (to be established) in this processional performance. The applicant would work with the artist to develop simple and jovial movements that are reminiscent of non-professional folk performance, and coordinate the larger performance group to create an engaging promenading event.

See YouTube for events such as the Otterbourne Christmas mummers and the Whittlesea Straw Bear, and Walking Days for illustration.

The event will be a part of the Arts Council funded Imago artist residency and commission project run by Wigan Libraries.

How to apply:

To apply please send your CV, images and video of past work, and a cover letter describing why you think you would be suitable to develop a performance of this kind. Include personal interests and previous experience.
