Call for Artists – Future Human, Wigan STEAM
- Closes 24th March 2020
- Type Part time
- Salary Paid (£15k-20k pro rata)
- Contact Louise Robson firstname.lastname@example.org
The Future Human project will explore what’s in store for humanity and planet earth in the year 2050, delving into the problems we might face as our species evolves, the climate continues to change, and technology advances at an ever-increasing rate.
We’ll be recruiting a group of young people to work with scientists and technologists to gather research about cutting-edge technologies and scientific evidence and theories that might give us a glimpse into the future. The group will then go on to produce artworks that represent their findings and imagined ideas for the future, in collaboration with a team of artists. Documentation of the project alongside the artworks produced will form an exhibition in our gallery.
We’re looking for artists to work with our group of young people to make artwork that responds to the theme of ‘Future Human’, with a focus on what life might be like in the year 2050. Selected artists will work in collaboration with the group to produce artworks informed and inspired by the work they have done previously during the project. Artists will spend one full day with the group.
The proposed project should have a clearly defined outcome (i.e. an animation, a set of images, a sculpture), with a clear route for the group to have their own input based on the work they’ve done previously during the project (i.e. you propose to make an animation with the group and come with your own artistic style, but the group decide what the animation is about on the day with your guidance).
This call is open to all artforms and all proposals will be assessed on the quality of the idea. We are however, particularly interested to hear from artists whose work incorporates VR, AR, wearable technology, 3D printing, or concept art.
Artist fee: £500
Materials budget: £100
