The Coach House Gallery in Calderstones Park is set to close at the end of July 2011, as the Parks and Greenspaces staff are moving out of the building to other offices.
This little gallery has been a great success in recent years, being fully booked up for arts and crafts exhibitions by community art groups and individuals – 25 different groups exhibited in 2010.
It was also a venue for the Liverpool Biennial Independents festival, with an exhibition in 2010 by Italian photographers collective Pommefritz. This year the Gallery has already attracted over 8,700 visitors.
The Coach House Studio, a smaller venue alongside the Gallery, will also close. It has been used by community groups, including a weekly ‘Artists in Retirement’ group, for several years. As an example this year it was used by the Liverpool Sunflowers Art Group, which provides a creative outlet to aid recovery in cancer patients.
Many of the art groups are now looking for alternative venues to display their work.
The Coach House buildings and the Mansion House in Calderstones Park are scheduled for sale – details at http://www.liverpoolinlondon.com/res/media/pdf/HOTCalderstonesMansionHouseL18.pdf
