Do you have a background, interest or understanding of Roman archaeology?  Are you passionate and knowledgable about Hadrian’s Wall and Cumbria? Could you become an Assistant Curator at Tullie House?

Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery in Carlisle is a popular, ambitious and successful regional museum with a forward-thinking manifesto and internationally important collections.  The museum has been an independent charitable Trust since 2011, it leads the NPO funded Cumbria Museum Consortium and has a range of impressive partners including the British Museum and the Universities of Cumbria and Lancaster.

The museum is looking to employ an Assistant Curator to support the delivery of WallCAP, a Hadrian’s Wall Community Archaeology Project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

WallCAP works with partners across the wall to increase engagement, understanding and conservation of the wall focusing on both its history and the landscape around it. This post is to support a WallCAP funded gallery at Tullie House which will explore the landscape of Roman Carlisle and Cumbria and the relationship between Roman hinterland and the military zone of Hadrian’s Wall, developed in collaboration with volunteers. The ideal candidate for this role will have a background, interest or understanding of Roman archaeology, ideally of Hadrian’s Wall and/or of Cumbria. They should have skills or experience in researching archaeological sites and collections and a basic understanding of working with and accessing museum collections.

Application closes at 12 noon, Wednesday 19 February 2020, with interviews taking place the week commencing 2 March 2020
